Week 8
Audio Recording
This week, I created an audio recording for a video embedded in Module 2. The video is a 90-second doodle-style graphic designed to encourage the 'remember' foundation of Bloom's Taxonomy model. The video's objective is for the viewer to recall the experience of being rejected for a job. While the video's dialogue is written on screen, the captions only identify the type of music and the emotion it is intended to evoke. The audio description allows a visually impaired viewer to hear a description of the entire video, including scene changes, setting, and dialogue. There is a button below the video the viewer can click to listen to the audio file, and there is also a link to a transcript document that can be read by a screen reader.
The audio was created using Garage Band, which was very easy to use after watching a few YouTube tutorials. The audio is a straightforward narration, so it could have been done in Quicktime Player, but it is good to know now how to use Garage Band if multi-track audio is needed later in the course. Because I wrote a script to read for the audio, it was easy to turn that document into a transcript. I have heard that Audacity is another good program for recording audio, so I may try that in the future.
