Week 7
Interactive Module
This week, I created an interactive module for working with applicant tracking systems (ATS) in your job search. Currently, this is Module 2, but as the other modules are built out, this may be Module 3 or 4. It covers key learning objectives (stated in the module) and is critical for the successful completion of the course. For cost reasons, I chose to work in Adobe Captivate as it was the only option with a monthly fee instead of an annual or one-time purchase.
Although I am very familiar with Adobe products, I found the learning curve to be very steep with Captivate. Apparently, version 12 has just been released, so there was not as much help online for the newest version. I found an instructional designer on YouTube who has created a small library of videos, which were very helpful. I created an AWS/S3 account to host the project and provide a URL to use in WIX. Again, there was a tremendous learning curve to create an AWS account with public permissions, and I was only able to do so after finding the necessary code in a YouTube tutorial.
After working in Canva for all other course materials, I was very surprised at the limited design capabilities in Captivate. Resizing images and rearranging page content is very challenging and frustrating. Although you can create images in Canva and import them, once in Captivate the ability to resize and adjust them is incredibly limited. I added three elements of interactivity (none of which are mandatory), one multiple-choice question, 1 card flip for key information, and an ending quiz. The final slide includes an assignment to apply the knowledge to the student's own resume, and then to interact with peer's work in the forum.
