Week 4

Minicourse Video

I created a video this week encouraging students to sign up for the minicourse. I used Canva to create the video since I have experience using it for personal and professional projects. I may export the Canva pages as separate files for future videos to fine-tune the audio and transitions in iMovie.

Canva has a great library of video templates that I did not use. However, with their extensive video and graphics library, I could combine elements into a good storyline. Although their audio selections can be limited, I found a workable audio track that was professional without being distracting. To help with accessibility, I just used a background music track and kept all the information as onscreen text. Captions were added to describe the music and the tempo change.

I started the process without having a completed storyboard, which was a time-consuming mistake. Rather than focus on formatting the content and then adding components to round out the video, I started developing the design first. For future videos or other multimedia, I will be sure to have a complete storyboard to utilize development time better.

One challenging issue was trying to develop the look of the video to complement the style/colors of the video and flyer I created previously. I'm still deciding whether I should redo the previous collateral materials to match the style of the video.
