Week 1

Digital Media Checklist

Using Open Educational Resources (OERs) in crafting my mini-course on resume writing with AI underscores the necessity of a comprehensive evaluation checklist. I did not come from an ID background and was unaware that such resources existed. I was struck by the lecture comment that OERs are instrumental in democratizing education by removing financial barriers and promoting knowledge sharing. Upon reflection, it seems that the existence and maintenance of these resources are increasingly critical as technology and its monetary costs now significantly impact all levels of education. While the proliferation of open resource sharing has significant benefits, its open nature also requires careful scrutiny to ensure quality and relevance.

Many checklist items seem obvious (spelling, grammar, information accuracy), but in my research, I found that tracking down very current resources may be the most challenging. Because my course focuses on artificial intelligence, I discovered that OERs over a few months old are irrelevant. The rapid advancement of the technology may require me to delay choosing final resources until just before the course is published. Also, this will mean the update cadence must be almost constant.
